About Jamar Power Systems

Jamar Power Systems (JPS) is a California licensed C10 General Electrical Contractor providing residential and commercial electrical services, and solar power installations.

Our electrical and solar energy system clients include home builders, general contractors, corporations, non-profits, and individuals.

We are one of the few production electrical contractors with extensive retrofit and new home solar installation experience.

Our History & What The Name JAMAR Means

Founded in 1984 by James and Margaret Halbert. The company name, JAMAR, came about by merging the beginning of their two first names.

Jim was a 30 year electrical contracting industry veteran who started the company late in his career. He oversaw the establishment of a solid crew of young residential and commercial electricians.

Jim instilled old school ethics into his young crew. Several of the current senior managers joined the organization at that time and are now the 30 year industry veterans currently running the company.

Our First Big Challenge

The early 1990’s brought a recession to the home building industry, so we continued with what residential work we could find and leaned on our commercial experience to work on several public works projects while riding out the recession.

During the mid 1990’s, Jim had decided to retire and passed the reins of his company to his now experienced management team.

Over the next few years as the economy recovered, the management team grew the company’s residential production division by installing electrical in over 1,000 housing units a year for the next decade while continuing on with its commercial and custom home division.

New Horizons And Expansions

The early 2000’s brought us an opportunity to install our first solar power system.  Nothing close to what is installed today, more of an idea of what may work in the future.

In 2003, we formed Jamar Electric San Diego, Inc. to perform commercial work in San Diego county.

Meanwhile, the original company churned out thousands of housing units on single family and multifamily developments in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Now Solar Is The Real Deal

By 2006, the state passed landmark legislation entitled The California Solar Initiative to promote the installation of solar energy systems.

We thought it would be a good idea to take our electrical experience and apply it to solar power systems. It makes sense for an electrician to install a solar power system.

Therefore, our commercial company began operating under our current name of Jamar Power Systems reflecting the offerings of its commercial electrical, custom home, generator and solar power systems.

A Big Hit

In 2008 a national recession hit the U.S. the home building industry leading to the dissolution of the original company in 2010.

Nevertheless, the team forged on performing selected residential production, commercial, generator, custom home and solar power installations under its new banner of Jamar Power Systems.

As the solar industry began to boom with homeowners and businesses seeking to reduce their annual electricity expenses during these hard times, we decided to drop generator installations to focus on expanding solar power system installation business.

Diversification Is The Key

By the mid 2010’s, we resumed a steady flow of residential production work coupled with the existing San Diego Custom Home division and a separate Solar Power Installation division.

We cross sell our existing clients with our related services.  They’re able to work with someone they trust while we expand our operations.
