History of La Mesa California
La Mesa is a city in San Diego County, California, USA. The city is located in the eastern part of the county and is bordered by El Cajon to the north, Lemon Grove to the south, and Santee to the east. La Mesa has a population of about 60,000 people.
As one of the oldest cities in San Diego County, La Mesa has a long and interesting history. The city was originally founded by William Heath Davis in 1869 with the intention of building a resort community for tourists from Los Angeles. However, his plans were thwarted when he discovered there was no water available at the site.
He then turned his attention to the mesa east of San Diego, which had a natural spring. Davis built a hotel and several businesses in what is now La Mesa, but the city did not really take off until 1880 when the railroad came through. The city experienced rapid growth in the early 20th century, becoming a popular resort destination for tourists from all over. La Mesa incorporated as a city in 1912.
Today, La Mesa is a thriving suburban community with a strong sense of history and tradition. The city is home to a number of popular annual events, including the La Mesa Oktoberfest and the Spring Street Fair. There are also many shopping and dining options, as well as several museums and parks. La Mesa is truly a unique place to live, work, and play.
